Rebuilding Day Adopt-A-Park Grows!

Rebuilding Day, October 24, included repairs on 34 homes throughout Santa Clara County.  Half of those projects took place in one mobile home park: Woodbridge Mobile Home Park near 101 and Capitol Expressway.  This effort was our 2nd annual Adopt-A-Park program where we take on multiple projects in one mobile home park all at the same time, making the most of our volunteer, material and financial resources.  "We can truly see the benefit of 'economy of scale'," said Program Director, Deanne Everton.  "Having so many projects in such close proximity means we can share skilled labor and rotate volunteers throughout the day where most needed. And it is exciting to be part of such a large effort where so much happens in one day."

Over 200 volunteers came together for a joint kick-off at 8am at the clubhouse; after reviewing logistics for the day and a safety talk by House Colonel, Bob Doucette, volunteers dispersed to their respective projects and got to work.  Everyone came back together for lunch, to visit and re-energize.  Most projects wrapped up by 4 or 5pm.  One homeowner proclaimed that he'd never seen so many young people so enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Last year's Adopt-A-Park took place in the Rancho Santa Teresa Mobile Home Park with 10 projects.  This year, we completed 17 projects thanks in large part to our sponsors:  Adobe, Advantest America, eBay Foundation, Saratoga Presbyterian Church and amdocs.  And a special thanks to the House Captains who took on the challenge:  Chuck Stees of Saratoga Presbyterian, Joel Gibson of Advantest, Terry Martin from American Institute of Architects of Santa Clara County, Lynn Alens, Dave Flack, Bob Moll, Terry McIntyre, and Rich Wolters.

N2N Blog for Sept 2009 - Energy Efficiency in Milpitas

This past week took us to Milpitas where we first spent our first of our new stimulus money for Energy efficiency. With the help of another large turnout, we were able to tackle a sizeable list of repairs and upgrades including, Kitchen Faucet & Plumbing, Vanity & Sink Repairs, Toilet Repairs, CFLs, Shower Seat & Handheld Faucet, Grab Bars, Garage Door, Patio Door Screen, Vent Screens, Fence & Gate Repairs and several Energy Star appliances. Our host was extremly gracious and thankful and our group came away feeling like we made a positive impact...thanks everyone!
