About UsWho We Are Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is a non-profit organization that performs free home accessibility and safety repairs/modifications for older adults and disabled homeowners in Santa Clara County. We also serve other non-profit organizations so that they can dedicate their resources to the community rather than to facility repair. Our Mission Rebuilding Together brings communities and volunteers together to rehabilitate the homes of low income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so that they may live in warmth, safety and independence. Our Work Since our establishment in 1991, Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley has renovated over 1000 homes and community facilities. The majority of the low-income homeowners we serve are elderly or disabled individuals or residents who are physically and financially unable to maintain safe and warm living conditions for themselves and their families. Repair and maintenance work for non-profit facilities assists these organizations to direct their resources to help our community. Each fall and spring during our Rebuilding Days, we gather donated materials and rally hundreds of volunteers to help repair and rehabilitate homes and nonprofit facilities. Our program provides both major and minor repairs and renovations that result in life-changing improvements for the homeowners and organizations served. Throughout the year, our Neighbor to Neighbor program provides small volunteer teams to perform repairs that improve accessibility and mobility within the home. How we can provide free work and who completes the repairs We are able to provide all of our services for free by utilizing volunteer labor and donated and reduced cost supplies and materials. Most of the work is completed by community volunteers who generously donate their time and talents to help out. These volunteers come from businesses, churches, construction teams, service groups, etc. By utilizing these volunteers we are able to produce about $8 worth of repairs for every $1 donated. Volunteering The vast majority of our work is completed by volunteers. We have volunters who help out in all areas of our operation from client outreach to construction. We encourage volunteers of all skill backgrounds to volunteer (14 years and older please). Click Here for more information. Client Qualifications 1. Applicants have to own the home that they live in. We serve single family homes, mobile homes, condominiums and townhomes. At this time we are not able to provide services to people who rent their residences. 2. Applicants must meet our income requirements. For example, an applicant who lives alone in their home cannot make more than $59,400 per year when all income is considered. Our application provides more details on income limits. (Note: The value of a potential client’s home or other assets is NOT taken into consideration.)
